Italia Arcobaleno (Rainbow Italy)

LGBT places, celebrities and historical-cultural itineraries
Texts by Giovanni Dall’Orto – Illustrations by Massimo Basili

History is made not only of dates and names, but of people and everyday life, of places full of secrets and curiosities. This is the first Italian LGBT travel and historical guide where the tales of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people find their right place.

AN IRONIC GUIDE FULL OF SUGGESTIONS, WITH MANY PREVIOUSLY UNKNOWN CURIOSITIES TO SEE ITALY IN A NEW LIGHT.

In this volume on the beautiful north-central Italy, Dall’Orto accompanies the reader through monuments, streets and museums in the cities of Florence, Milan, Rome, Turin and Venice, reconstructing biographies and historical events through the documents of the time, with the support of hundreds of photographs. Basili’s illustrations recreate loosely and in a pop key events and places, to allow us to identify with the reality of characters such as Leonardo Da Vinci or Queen Cristina of Sweden.

From the Royal Palace of Turin to the Milanese Teatro alla Scala and San Marco square in Venice. Then again towards Giotto’s campanile in the center of Florence and strolling inside Villa Borghese in Rome. For each city the guide contains multiple itineraries, envisaged to be concluded within a few hours, and which can be accompanied by more classic tourist visits. Between court scandals, trials and convictions, secular secrets, loves and political battles, Italia Arcobaleno will guide you into a storythat nobody has ever told you before.

Giovanni Dall’Orto is a historian, journalist and gay activist. For years he has been dealing with history and art history in an LGBT key, themes he has addressed in numerous essays and articles.
